During Mr. McLean’s twelve years at the school, several improvements were carried out internally. Ceilings were lowered and neon tubes considerably improved the lighting. In line with other schools, new gadgets appear among the school’s equipment: tape recorder, radio and television receivers; the installation of a telephone was a welcome item to facilitate communications in the administration of the school. Nothing gave the staff and pupils greater pleasure, one supposes than to see the School being heated by gas in September 1969. So the perpetual nuisance of “smokey fires”, which had so often been the subject of reference in the logbooks with varying amusing and not so amusing comment, was finally conquered.
